Welcome to Arniston House & Estate

Arniston is a 6,000 acre working estate located just 11 miles from Edinburgh that has been in the Dundas family for more than 450 years.

Arniston House is a magnificent William Adam Palladian style Mansion House commissioned in 1724. It features three floors with stunning natural light, a number of reception rooms including the John Adam Dining and Drawing rooms, Oak Room, William Adam Library, a grand staircase, various living quarters, period furnishings, portraiture and artworks by such renown artists as Naismith and Raeburn and stucco works by Josef Enzer. Additional Grade A listed structures include the Orangery, Stables and Walled Garden.

The wider Arniston Estate provides a wide range of settings for film and photography, featuring parklands, meadows, tree-lined drives and footpaths, additional gardens, sweeping landscapes, woodland and glens, and five traditional stone-built estate cottages(currently holiday lets). There are two reservoirs and frontage onto the River Esk. Redheugh Farm is within the estate and offers a range of modern and historical agricultural buildings and barns, with extensive farmland and fields. Other notable features include a disused quarry, historic limekilns and several dilapidated cottages and other ruins.

As Arniston we have a wealth of experience hosting both large and smaller scale film productions – including feature films shot over several days with crews of up to 180, television drama, commercials, fashion shoots and commercial stills photography.

Recent installations to areas of hard standing and car parking, improved vehicular access, provide greater flexibility to meet the needs of production crews in terms of technical and unit vehicles. The cottages can also be available for green rooms, break out areas or production space.

As a Historic House within a large estate, all within easy reach of Edinburgh, Arniston can provide a wide variety of locations. The benefit of multiple locations within one area, with one single point of contact, has often proved popular with film crews and our dedicated, experienced team will work with your production team to ensure that your shoot at Arniston(no matter how small) is a success.
